Violet Vera Springer, 92, of Stewartville, MN died on Saturday, October 9, 2021 of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where she had been a resident for 1 month.
Violet Vera Quandt was born on November 5, 1928 in Stewartville, MN to Elmer and Alice (Lee) Quandt. She grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Valley Township, MN where she went to country school and attended Stewartville H.S. graduating in 1946. She was employed at the Kahler Hotel in Rochester where she worked in the cigar store and as an elevator operator and would get $100.00 tips at times.
Violet was married in Witchita, KS in 1955 to Donald Thomas. The couple made their home in Witchita, KS where Violet was employed at the Holiday Inn as a hostess. Mr. Thomas died on January 30, 1968. Violet was married on December 14, 1974 to Robert Springer. They made their home in Oklahoma City, OK where they lived for many years. Mr. Springer died on May 8, 2013. Vi moved to Stewartville in 2014 to live near her brother Ray and his family. She was a past member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley where she was baptized and confirmed. Violet enjoyed sports – basketball & the OU Sooners, followed politics, loved a good burger and cooking for her family. She loved time spent with her family, especially celebrating the holidays. Vi never met a stranger and often said there is not a bad person around, if you get to know them.
Violet is survived by her 4 step children, Andy, Dave, Tom, and Debra, 9 step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren; her brother – Ray Quandt of Stewartville and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands and her parents and 2 sisters Evelyn Ellefson and Verna Haack.
The visitation for family and friends will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., followed with a prayer service, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville, MN. Vi will be laid to rest at Sunny Lanes Cemetery in Del City, OK at a later date. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
