The Mass of Christian Burial for Verna M. Moran, 90, of Rochester, MN will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday (August 28, 2021) at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Moran died on Friday (August 20, 2021) of natural causes at her daughter’s home in rural Grand Meadow.
Verna Marie Hemker was born on November 1, 1930 in Pleasant Grove Twsp, MN to George and Leona ( Buss) Hemker. She grew up on the family farm in rural Chatfield, attended country school and Chatfield H.S. and after moving with her family graduated from Stewartville H.S. in 1949. Verna was married on April 29, 1950 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville to Mayou J. Moran. Following their marriage the couple lived in Stewartville, where they began their family and moved to Rochester in 1959, where they lived for many years. Verna was a homemaker and Mayou was a longtime employee at Peoples Cooperative Power in Rochester including as Director of Operations. Mr. Moran died on July 3, 1988. Verna was a longtime active member of St. Frances Catholic Church in Rochester and was also a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church. Verna continued to make her home in Rochester after Mayou’s death and was a member of the Rochester Senior Center and the Silver Treads square dancing club. She enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, polka dancing with Mayou and followed the MN Twins. Verna enjoyed visiting with friends and loved spending time with her large family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Verna is survived by 4 daughters and 4 sons – Stephen Moran of New Ulm,MN; Kathy Moran of Apple Valley,MN; Matthew(Sheryl) Moran of Rochester; Brian(JoEllyn) Moran of Plymouth,MN; Patrick(Linda) Moran of Lakeville,MN; Patricia(Rob) Miller of rural Grand Meadow,MN; Georgann(Mark) O’Byrne of Rochester and Teresa Moran( Brett Vermilyea) of Rochester; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband – Mayou, her parents and her brother – Gerald Hemker.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday (August 27, 2021) at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning..
