The Mass of Christian Burial for Richard M. Flynn, 92, of Minneapolis,MN and a former rural Stewartville,MN resident will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (August 17, 2019) at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Simpson, MN. with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mr. Flynn died on Monday (August 12, 2019) of natural causes at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester, where he had been a resident for the past 3 months.
Richard Mathew Flynn was born on October 27, 1926 in Orion Twsp., Olmsted County,MN. to Lawrence and Ruth (Towey) Flynn. He grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Grove Twsp., attended Chatfield schools, graduating as class salutorian from Chatfield H.S. in 1944. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he served as a radio operator. Following his discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree in Microbiology in 1950. Dick was a longtime employee at the Minnesota Department of Health in Minneapolis as a bacteriologist until his retirement in 1989. He was a devout Catholic who attended daily Mass at St. Olaf Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis. Just prior to his retirement, Dick moved to Centre Village Condominiums in downtown. He enjoyed walking in the Skyways, making many friends along the way. He enjoyed league bowling, often bought a Minneapolis City golf membership enjoying the many downtown area golf courses and was an avid Twins fan. He had many acquaintences that knew him as a kind and generous man with a good sense of humor. Richard always looked forward to the drive to S.E. Minnesota to spend time with his large extended family.

Dick is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters – Mary Gardner, Kathryn Abraham and Teresa Nissen and 2 brothers – Thomas Flynn and James “Pete” Flynn.
