Nicholas "Nick" Konrady Obituary

The Mass of Christian Burial for Nicholas “Nick” Konrady, 69,  a Stewartville,MN resident will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (June 29, 2021) at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Konrady died on Sunday (June 20, 2021) from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Nicholas Russell Konrady was born March 22, 1952 in Ames,IA the first child to Howard and Mary Arlene(Daniels) Konrady. He grew up in Fairfield,IA, attended  school, graduating from Fairfield H.S. in 1970.  He then attended Iowa State earning a Bachleors Degree in Civil Engineering. Nick was married on June  26, 1976 in Burnsville,MN to Sandra J. Lohse. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Chariton,IA where Nick was employed as Lucas County Engineer. In 1993 they moved to Webster City,IA where he was employed as the Hamilton County Engineer. During these years Nick went back to school part-time and earned his Surveyor’s Certification. The Konradys moved to Stewartville in 2002, when Nick was employed with WHKS Engineering in Rochester until his retirement. Sandy was a homemaker and was employed at Root River Estates and the Stewartville Care Center for a number of years. Nick was an active member of St. Bernards Catholic Church serving as a lector, as an RCIA mentor and volunteered with the Men’s Club. He served on the St. Bernards Cemetery Board and the Woodlawn Cemetery Board both in Stewartville, volunteering countless hours over the past 8 years surveying, organizing and modernizing both cemetery’s records and plats, leaving an amazing legacy for new boards to follow. He was a member of the National Assn of County Engineers(NACE) serving on it’s board of directors and was a member of  the Iowa Board of Examiners helping write exam material for surveying and engineer testing. Nick was a Boy Scout and troop leader while his son Tony was earning his Eagle Scout rank and was very active with the Lions while living in Iowa. He was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed reading and was an NFL fan. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and time spent with his large family, especially his grand-daughter.

Nick is survived by his wife – Sandy and son Tony(Kirsten Alvarez both of Stewartville and grand-daughter – Nicole(Ian) Hubbard of Reno,NV; 3 sisters and 3 brothers –Rose(Jerry) Acker of Coon Rapids,MN; Mary(Daren) Gangelhoff of Eagan,MN; Dan Konrady of Ames,IA; Paul(Paula) Konrady of Seattle,WA; Phil(Laura) Konrady of Eldridge,IA and Carol(Mark) Wilson of Cedar Rapids,IA and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.           

A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 9:30 A.M. to the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville. Condolences and memories of  Nick are welcome at www.griffin-gray.com
