Mildred M. Allen, 88, of Stewartville, MN, died on Tuesday(June 15, 2021) of natural causes at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Mary’s Campus.
Mildred Marie Gettman was born on August 21, 1932 in Kossuth County, IA to John and Blanche (Rich) Gettman. She grew up in Garner, IA where she attended Garner H.S., graduating in 1950. Mildred was married on October 8, 1957 in Spring Valley, MN to Gerald W. Swygman. The couple made their home in Stewartville. Mildred was a homemaker and was employed part-time at the Stewartville Care Center. Gerald was employed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Mr. Swygman died on November 2, 1980. Mildred was married on September 11, 1982 to Paul Allen. They made their home in Carthage, TN where they lived for many years. Mildred was a past member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses both in Spring Valley and in Carthage. She was a current member of the Rochester congregation. Paul died on February 10, 2019, and Mildred returned to Stewartville to live near her sons. She enjoyed crocheting, feeding and watching the birds and travelling. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by her 3 sons – Keith(Colleen) Swygman of Stewartville; Joel Swygman of Rochester and Craig (Audrey) Swygman of Tigard ,OR; and a step-son Richard (Ruth) Allen of Hickory, NC. 7 grandchildren – Brad Swygman(April Rankin-Thurman), Brent Swygman(Candy Niewoehner), Derek Swygman, Alison Swygman, Emily(Tyson) Freier, Corissa Swygman and Jeremy Swygman; 8 great grandchildren – Rylee, Braelin, Tatum, Finn, Natalie, Frederick, Kendrick and Jace; 1 sister – Lavonne(George) Grover of Waterloo, IA; 2 brothers - Floyd Gettman of Luena, Iowa and Art(Donna) Gettman of Columbia, MO and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands – Gerald Swygman and Paul Allen and her parents.
