Marlene Struthers, 67, a longtime rural Stewartville, MN resident died on Wednesday (June 3, 2020) from complications of heart failure, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN, where she had been a patient for 3 days.
Marlene Campbell was born on March 26, 1953 in Rochester, MN to Richard and Betty (Thompson) Campbell. She grew up on the family farm, attended Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1971. She was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester in the records department for several years before becoming the owner/operator of Records Management, storing images of documents on microfiche. She was later employed at Olmsted County in the vital records department, and worked/volunteered in the elections department. Marlene was married to John Struthers on May 19, 1990 at Marion Church of Christ in Rochester. They resided on the family farm in Pleasant Grove Township, where they raised their children and have continued to make their home. Health concerns caused her early retirement, and Marlene became a fulltime homemaker. John was a crane operator with the Local 49 (retired) in Rochester for over 30 years, working primarily with HiMEC in Rochester. He is currently a part-time driver with Rochester Delivery Services. Marlene loved camping and fishing with John, along with her family and friends at Hope Oak Knoll Campground in Hope, MN. She and John frequently traveled to Colorado to visit family and to enjoy time in the mountains. She loved tending to her beautiful, abundant pink peonies and lilacs, and watching and feeding the birds on the farm. Marlene was an avid reader, crafter, excellent baker and cook, hostess of all celebrations, and MN Vikings fan. She was always quick to smile and laugh when she saw you, as she enjoyed visiting with friends. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marlene is survived by her husband – John, and 2 daughters – Leah Nielsen of Rochester and Krista (Lucas) Peterson of Castle Rock, CO; 5 grandchildren – Tanner Kosnopfal, Shoshana Kosnopfal, Lindsey Kosnopfal, Haley Joerg and Georgia Peterson, and 2 great grand-daughters – Aubree and Harlie; 1 sister – Charlene Campbell Rogers (Denny) of Castle Rock, CO, 1 brother – Richard (Cheryl) Campbell of Cloquet, MN, and nieces and nephews.
