Marilyn J. Schiebsted, 87 a longtime Stewartville,MN resident died on Tuesday (October 17, 2023) of natural causes at her home.

Marilyn June Gudmundson was born June 6, 1936 in Peterson,MN to Harold and Judith(Olson) Gudmundson. She grew up on the family farm in rural Peterson, attended country school and Peterson schools, graduating from Peterson HS in 1953. She was employed in the office at Tri-City Electric in Rushford,MN. Marilyn was married on September 2, 1955 at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson to Glendon M. Schiebsted. The couple lived in Rushford for a number of years before moving to Stewartville in 1969, where they raised their sons and have continued to make their home. Marilyn was a homemaker and was employed as bookkeeper at Tri-State Tire in Rochester. She started MJS Bookkeeping from her home where she did accounting and books for several area businesses. She also opened MJS Bookstore in her home which she operated for a few years. Glen was a heavy equipment operator with the Local 49ers until his retirement. Mr. Schiebsted died on December 15, 1986. Marilyn was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and was an active volunteer and member of the Center For Active Adults in Stewartville. She volunteered with many of the Special Needs advocacy groups in the area and also with Meals on Wheels. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, being in her gardens and tending her many houseplants. Marilyn loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by 2 sons - Rodney Schiebsted of Rochester and Dale Schiebsted of Stewartville; 2 grandchildren - Morgan Schiebsted of Stewartville and Connor Schiebsted( Bailey Bataille) of Eau Claire,WI; her brother – Curtis Gudmundson of Peterson,MN and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband – Glen and her parents.

A memorial service for Marilyn will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday (October 28, 2023) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A time of visitation for family and friends will be 1 hr. prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday morning.
