Linda Kay Platz

Linda Kay Platz, 67, a longtime resident of Stewartville, MN died peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, following a short illness at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Mary’s Campus.

Linda Kay Bentley was born December 14, 1958 in Cresco, IA to Lester and Hazel (Wentworth) Bentley. She grew up on the family farm, and at the age of 9 her father Lester passed away. She went to Cresco schools and graduated from Cresco HS in 1977. She attended Hamilton College in Mason City, IA earning an Associate’s Degree to become a medical secretary, and was employed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Linda was married on June 28, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in Cresco, IA to Gary Roy Platz. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester, MN where they began their family and lived for a few years. They moved to Stewartville in 1992 where they have continued to make their home. Linda was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at age 39, and continued her life as normal as she was able, not letting it define her, retiring after a 36-year career at Mayo Clinic in 2014.

Linda was a longtime member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville where she volunteered with the Awana Program. She enjoyed reading, traveling with family, and was an enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fan. She liked visiting with her church and work families and loved time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband of 46 years – Gary; her son – Brian (Ashley) Platz and grandchildren – Simon and Isla all of Hastings, MN; her daughter – Stacy (Jared) Spurgeon of Stewartville, MN; 3 sisters – Shirley (Dave) Sovereign of Cresco, IA; Jane (John) Gadow of Cedar Falls, IA and Janice (Randall) Croat of Polk City, IA; sisters-in-law – Doris (Art) Brookins of Chatfield, MN; Ruth (Gordie) Ernst of The Villages, FL and Janice (Bob) Nickelson of Rochester; brothers-in-law – Dave (Linda) Platz of Orchard, IA and Duane (Donna) Platz of Allentown, PA; step-sister in-laws – Lorna Kinney, Lisa Walker, and Rhonda who is deceased; and many nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her parents – Lester and Hazel, and her step-father Bill Walker. 

A Celebration of Life for Linda will be held August 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville with Rev. Andrew Langseth officiating. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 9:30 AM to the time of service at the church on Saturday morning. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
