Joan B. Kuhlman, 87, a longtime rural Racine, MN resident died on Wednesday (February 7, 2024) of congestive heart failure at Mayo Clinic Rochester – Saint Mary’s Campus.
Joan Beverly Everts was born July 4, 1936, in Grand Meadow, MN to Fred and Dorothea (Rausch) Everts. She lived most of her life in Pleasant Valley township, attending a one-room school there and high school in Stewartville, graduating in 1955. After school, she worked as a nurse’s aide while waiting for the love of her life to return from Korea. Joan married Walter E. Kuhlman September 23, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley township, where she was a lifelong member. The couple moved to the current Kuhlman Family Farm where they raised their children and farmed for over 60 years. Joan was first and foremost a wife and mother, then a homemaker and occasionally an employee. Joan enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, and collecting music boxes. She loved visits from all family members and especially those of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan and Walter were living at The Waters in Rochester, MN at the time of her death.
Joan is survived by her husband of 67 years - Walter and 4 children: Marie (Mark) Anderson; Darwin (Margaret) Kuhlman; Elaine (Gregory) Keyes and Roger (Terri) Kuhlman; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as three sisters and brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday (April 6, 2024) at Immanuel Lutheran Church In Pleasant Valley township with Rev. Marc Freiberg Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 4 to 7:00 PM on Friday (April 5, 2024) at Griffin-Gray FH in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church.
