Jason P. Byrne Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love we share the passing of Jason Byrne, 50, of Stewartville,MN. Jason passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. He fought a brave battle against Glioblastoma (brain cancer) for nearly three years. Every step of his illness, he was confident in his faith, focused on raising his children and making memories with family and friends.

Born on January 12, 1976, in Rochester MN, he was the son of Jim and Sharon Byrne of Stewartville MN. Jason attended Stewartville schools and became a cadet with the Stewartville Fire Department in high school. After graduating from Stewartville High School in 1994, he worked at Geotek in Stewartville before attending and graduating as a construction electrician from Riverland Community College in Albert Lea, MN. Jason worked for Harley’s Quality Electric and Kuntz Electric before starting his own business, Byrne Electric. Jason excelled in his career developing many close relationships with the customers, business leaders, and contractors/vendors that he worked around. He especially enjoyed doing commercial service work for Stewartville Schools, Ag Partners, Rochester Athletic Club, and Rochester Ready Mix Concrete. He took great pride in doing things the right way and impressed customers with his workmanship and ability to troubleshoot issues.
Jason and Heather Lawson met in high school and were married in September of 1999. They shared over 26 years together and built a beautiful family including three children, Kayla (20), Audra (18) and Justin (15) and two dogs, Charlie and Archie. Jason was a proud dad who was especially good at teaching his kids life skills and encouraging them in all their activities. Jason was known for his quick wit, orchestrating many practical jokes and was not as proud to be a recipient of a few too!

Jason’s work ethic was inherited from his beloved dad, Jim. As the youngest son he cherished every chance to go to work with him, spending many evenings and weekends helping him farm, raise cattle, and plow snow. Jason also served the Stewartville community as a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years and was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed snowmobiling with friends, listening and singing along to music, watching old TV shows, attending the Root River Antique Tractor show, and spending time with his family.

Jason is survived by his wife, Heather, children Kayla, Audra and Justin. His Grandmother - Beulah Ankeny, Mother - Sharon Byrne, brothers - Chris Byrne (Tammy Brogan) and Jeff Byrne (Kristin Howard); sister Sheilah Byrne, and sister-in-law Dorie Byrne; Father-in-law – Les Lawson; Brother-in-laws- Jeremy Lawson (Stacey Rath) and Brandon (Nicole) Lawson, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Jason was proceeded in death by his father Jim Byrne and his mother-in-law, Sylvia Lawson.

Our family will be forever humbled by the endless support received from the Stewartville community, close friends, family, and Heather’s teammates in the Mayo Clinic Treasury Services department. The family is also grateful for the compassion and exceptional care provided by many physicians, nurses, and supporting staff from many departments at Mayo Clinic and most recently from the Mayo Clinic Hospice Team and H&A Elite Home Healthcare.

The memorial service for Jason will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday (June 25, 2026) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating.
