Hazel A. Horan, 86, a longtime Rochester, MN resident died on Friday (June 26, 2020) of natural causes, at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Mary’s Campus where she had been a patient for the past week.
Hazel Ann Feldt was born on May 20, 1934 in Stewartville, MN to Clarence and Gladys (Sanderson) Feldt and was raised on their family farm. The family later moved to Spring Valley where she graduated from high school in 1952. Hazel then moved to Rochester where she was employed at the Mayo Clinic as a stenographer where she worked with Mayo Fellows’ correspondence. On May 19, 1956 Hazel married Lyle Francis Horan. The couple raised their children in their Rochester home. Lyle was a longtime employee at IBM in Rochester until his retirement. Lyle died on August 13, 1994. The Horans were longtime members of Peace United Church of Christ in Rochester where Hazel taught Sunday school and was a member of the Miriam Circle. Hazel and Lyle enjoyed camping and fishing at Big Sauk Lake. They also enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and city clubs. Hazel enjoyed visiting with friends and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her son, Randall Horan and her daughter, Valorie Gingrich; grandchildren, Elin (Matt) Cartier, Ira Gingrich and Sean Gingrich; great grandchildren, Dylan, Holly and Lyle Cartier; siblings, Lycille Ryther and Leonard Feldt. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, her parents and sister, Lois Angelbeck, and brother, Lawrence Feldt.
A burial and committal service with Rev. Paul Bauch of Peace United Church of Christ will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (June 30, 2020) at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.
