Harvey L. Nash, 84, a longtime Stewartville, MN resident died on Sunday (February 14, 2021) from complications of a lengthy illness with cancer at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where he had been a resident for the past two weeks.
Harvey Loren Nash was born August 19, 1936 in Lanesboro, MN to Earl and Meta(Westphal) Nash. He grew up on the family farm in rural Wykoff, attended country and Wykoff schools, graduating from Wykoff H.S. in 1954. He enlisted into the U.S. Army serving 2 years including duty overseas in Germany. He returned to SE Minnesota where he began working in construction. Harvey was married on May 7, 1960 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester to Marilyn A. Emanuel. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Stewartville in 1965, where they raised their family and have continued to make their home. Harvey was employed for a number of years with JA Mitchell Construction in Rochester as a heavy equipment operator. He was then employed with the City of Rochester – Parks and Recreation Department for over 25 years until his retirement. Marilyn was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years until her retirement. Harvey was employed part-time at Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester in his retirement. Harvey was a member of the Teamsters Union and Local 49ers IUOE, both in Rochester. He enjoyed gardening with Marilyn and was a Vikings fan. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 60 years – Marilyn; 2 daughters and 2 sons – Laurie (Jay) Deihs of Arlington Heights, IL; Cindy Nash of Rochester, MN; Jeffrey (Julie) Nash of Ankeny, IA; and Brian (Sylvia) Nash of Rochester, MN; 8 grandchildren – Megan (Nate) Rudis, Rebecca (Matt Cleghorn), Morgan Nash, Samuel Nash, Hailey Nash, Austin Nash, Jonathan Nash, and Jaelynn Nash; 3 great-grandchildren – Hallie, Garrett and Anna; 2 sisters - Florence Whipple of Rochester; Gloria Engle of Farmington, MN and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson - Caleb Nash, his parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday (February 16, 2021) at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. A committal service with military honors by Stewartville American Legion Post 164 will take place at the church followed by burial at the church cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 11:00 A.M. to the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
