George R. Menshik Obituary

The memorial service for George R. Menshik, 93, of Rochester, MN, formerly a longtime Stewartville, MN resident will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (April 23, 2022) at the Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester, MN with Rev. Susan O'Connell and Rev. Mark Radar officiating.  Mr. Menshik died on Wednesday (February 2, 2022) of natural causes at Mayo Clinic Rochester -St. Mary's Campus.

George Richard Menshik was born on July 28, 1928 in Omaha, NE to George Menshik and Erna (Meyer) Menshik.  He grew up in Omaha, attended Omaha schools, graduating from Omaha High School in 1946.  He attended the University of Nebraska (Omaha) and graduated in 1950.  He was a veteran of the Korean War (Washington DC).  He was employed as a photographer in Rochester Miracle Mile for 2 years.  From 1957-1987, he was employed by IBM in Rochester.  George married Wilma Pippert on November 13, 1965 at the Stewartville UMC.  Following their marriage, the couple moved to Stewartville, where they raised their family and continued to make their home for 46 years.  George and Wilma took an IBM transfer to Rust College in Holly Springs, MS from 1982-1984 and again from 1987-1990.   George taught in the computer department.  In 2011, they moved to south Rochester, where they lived until Wilma's passing in November, 2019.  George continued to live in the townhouse until Thanksgiving 2021.  December/January he resided at Madonna Towers doing rehab.  George and Wilma were longtime members of the Stewartville UMC and they were  members of Evangel UMC in Rochester.  George  for 10 years.  George was an avid (Master) gardener and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and also canning.  He was active in community service as a member of the Stewartville Lions Club and the Masons, and having served on the Stewartville School Board.  George lived to spend time with family, especially with his grandsons and great grandchildren.

George is survived by: 2 sons and 1 daughter--Richard (Diane) Pippert of Tiffin, IA; Greg (Linda) Pippert of Fullerton, CA and Janet (Kevin) Friederichs of St. Cloud, MN; 6 grandsons--Nathan (Stephanie) Pippert, Timothy Pippert, Jonathan (Jill) Pippert, Bryce (Katherine) Pippert,  Berent (Janice) Pippert, Brett (Kristin) Pippert; and 12 great grandchildren--Jade, Josslyn, Jensen, Aspen, Bowen, Charles, Wynn, Hannah, Grant, Ella, Lorelai, and Greyson.  He was proceeded in death by his wife--Wilma Menshik in 2019 and his parents.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be  from 9:30 to the time of the service (11:00) at the church on Saturday (4/23) (11:30) morning.  Burial and a committal service will take place at 3:30 P.M. Saturday (4/23) at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, IA.  The family suggests memorials to Doctors Without Borders.  Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.
