Frances Janssen Obituary

The memorial service for Frances I. Janssen, 93, a longtime resident of Stewartville, Mn .will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (January 23, 2018) at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stewartville,Mn. with Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Janssen died on Tuesday (January 16, 2018) of natural causes at Mayo Clinic - Rochester,MN - St. Marys Campus, where she had been a patient since Thursday of last week.

Frances Ione Senne was born September 11, 1924 in Fairmont, Mn. to Elmer and Leona (Davis) Senne. She grew up in Monterey,MN. attended school there, graduating from Monterey H.S. in 1941. Frances was married on September 28, 1941 in Elmore,Mn. to Emil B. Janssen. Emil served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and Frances moved to Washington State where Emil was based prior to his deployment during WW II. She lived and was employed there for a short time before returning to Minnesota to be near family. Emil served overseas in the Pacific Theatre, where he received a Purple Heart. Following his discharge, he attended school in Rochester and was employed at the Stewartville Elevator. The couple made their home in Stewartville, where they raised their children and continued to live for all 71 years of their marriage. Frances was a homemaker and also was employed part-time at Berg Drug Store on mainstreet in Stewartville. Following her kids' graduation, she was employed full time at Berg and then Himmer Snyder Drugstore. She was also employed at Fauver Pharmacy in Stewartville until her retirement. Emil was employed at the Stewartville Elevator for 37 years until his retirement. Mr. Janssen died on September 7, 2012. Frances moved to the Stewartvilla Apts, in 2015.

She was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where she served with it's Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Friendship Club, the Evening Guild and the bible study group. She was a member of the Stewartville American Legion Auxillary and the Ivan Stringer Post V.F.W Auxillary. Like Emil, she enjoyed golfing , bowling, camping up north with family and friends and feeding the birds in their yard. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. Frances loved time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Frances is survived by her daughter and son - Sandra(Ron) Geist of Stewartville,Mn. and Gary(Pam) of Faribault,Mn.; 6 grandchildren - Terri(Ron) Giese, Tammy(Frank) Huntley, Amy Janssen, Breyenne(Owen) Schunk, Christopher (Dufi) Geist and Nick Janssen; 5 great grandchildren - Lee, Alicia, Sophia, Vivienne and Dylan; 5 great-great grandchildren - Dominik and Akira, Nolan, Everett and Daya; 1 sister - Caroline Rinn of Rochester and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband - Emil, her parents and 5 brothers - Chester Senne, twins - Earl and Merle Senne, Howard Senne and Gordon Senne.

A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday (January 22, 2018) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville,Mn. and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
