Eugene "Gene" Claussen

The private family Memorial Service for Eugene L. Claussen,81, of Stewartville,MN will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday (April 10, 2021) at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place 1 hr. prior to the service at the church.. Mr Claussen died on Monday (January 11, 2021) of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where he had been a resident for 1 week. 

Eugene Lowell  Claussen was born November 3, 1939 in Pipestone,MN to Sophus and Irene Thill Claussen. He grew up on the family farm in rural Jasper,MN and attended Jasper H.S. and worked on the family farm. Eugene was married on May 29, 1960 in Jasper to Faye Campbell. The couple lived in the Jasper area where Gene was employed as farm laborer. They moved to Stewartville,Mn in 1972, where Gene was employed at Schoenfelder Farms in rural Rochester for a number of years. He also drove truck for over 30 years hauling automobiles. Faye was a homemaker and was a self-employed upholsterer and she did contract work for Howe’s Upholstery in Stewartville for a number of years. Gene was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church  and was a  member of the church choir.   He enjoyed deer hunting, watching rodeo and following his grandchildren’s sporting and horse and rodeo events. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years – Faye; 2 daughters and 2   sons – Julie(Shawn) Baker of rural Chatfield,MN; Donna(Allen) Benson of River Falls,WI/ Scott(Rachel) Claussen of  MN; Justin Claussen(Cecilia Moeller) of Eau Claire,WI; 5 grandchildren – Joshua(Jesse) Baker, Sarah(Brandon) Nieman, Drew Benson(Brittany Peterson), Logan Claussen(Stephanie Geisler) and Anja Claussen(Matt Peterson); 7 great-grandchildren – Samantha, Sadie, Savanna, Christopher, Aubrey, Blaine and Ensley;  sister – Doreen Ver Does of Preston,MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister – Elaine Nielsen and brother – Donovan Claussen.
