David L. Sackett, 87 a longtime Stewartville, MN area resident passed away peacefully on Thursday (June 4, 2026) at his home.
David Lawrence Sackett was born on January 13, 1939 to Cyril and Betty (Raymond) Sackett in Pleasant Grove Township, Mn. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Stewartville H.S. in 1957. He later attended Rochester Community College and St Mary’s College in Winona,MN earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. David was a member of the Rochester Police Department for 33 years and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department for 10 years.
David was a longtime active member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and served as President and board member of the Union Cemetery Assn in Pleasant Grove. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Peace & Police Officers Association, a past member of the Rochester Police Benevolent Association, Southeast Minnesota Police Officers Association, Stewartville Lions Club, and the Pleasant Grove Old Settlers Reunion. David enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly with his grandchildren, in Minnesota, South Dakota & Ohio. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting and school activities. He enjoyed traveling and auctions, in pursuit of his hobby, antique collecting. Dave enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and loved time spent with family.
David is survived by 4 daughters and 1 son; Kim (Paul Rowekamp) Sackett-Rowekamp; Joni (Tony) Canney ; Ann (John) Bikus; John (Nikki) Sackett; Sarah (Tom Hoel) Mason; daughter-in- law - Diane Sackett ; 1 stepson and 2 step daughters Paul (Sarah) VanTassel; Amy (Tim) Hoven and Jamie (Chad) Rogers; 17 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 22 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Annette (married 25 years), son - James Sackett, parents Cyril & Betty, and 3 brothers; Richard, Curtis, and Jan Sackett.
In keeping with David’s wishes no visitation or services will take place at this time. Private services will be held at a later date with interment at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.
