Curtis "Curt" Wibben Obituary

Curtis “Curt” Wibben, 75, a longtime High Forest Township, MN resident, died on Monday, June 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family, at his home, following a short illness with cancer.

Curt was born on February 5, 1946 in Titonka, IA to John “Jack” and Augusta (Tegtmeyer) Wibben.  He moved with his family as a young boy to Racine, MN when he was diagnosed  at the age of  3 with polio. The family moved to Stewartville, where Curt attended Stewartville H.S., graduating in 1965. He moved to Austin, MN where he attended Austin Community College. Curtis was married on November 5, 1966 at the Oakland Lutheran Church in Oakland, MN to Linda M. Holmquist. He was employed at the Holiday Inn as a night auditor and then with Yellow Cab in Rochester as a dispatcher. The couple moved to Stewartville in 1970 where they raised their sons. The Wibbens later moved to High Forest, where they have continued to make their home. Curt was employed as a dispatcher with the Rochester City Police and Olmsted County Sheriffs Department for over 25 years until his retirement in 2004. He helped with Suess Auction in Racine for a number of years after retiring. Linda was a longtime employee at Mayo Clinic in Rochester until her retirement.

Curt was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and was currently attending services at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stewartville. He served on the High Forest Township Planning and Zoning Board and he volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Rochester for a number of years. He enjoyed riding mules and horses with family and friends. Curt and Linda enjoyed riding and camping at 4Js and Panther Creek in Missouri. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, tractor pulling, and Antique Power Shows. Curt enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Curt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; 2 sons: Travis (Angie) and grandsons Seth and Sawyer of New Hartford, IA and Trevor (Char) and granddaughter, Mesa of rural Stewartville; siblings: Ron (Marion) Wibben of Stewartville, Janice (Larry) Billman and Sandy (Dallas) Gardner both of Chatfield, MN, and many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Angie (Bill) Broughman, Meredith (Ted) Simon and brothers: Lewis Wibben and infant brother.

The memorial service for Curt will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Pastor Justin Kumfer officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove Township. A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 21, 2021 at St. Johns Lutheran Church and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning. The Wibben Family suggests memorials to the March of Dimes, for their life-saving support at the time of Curt’s diagnosis with polio. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
