Carl L. Hanson, 74, a longtime Stewartville,MN resident, died on Wednesday (July 8, 2020), unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack, at Koda Living Community in Owatonna,Mn, where he had been a resident since 2019.
Carl Lawrence Hanson was born March 29, 1946 in Rochester,MN. to Evald and Helen(Thorstad) Hanson. Carl grew up in Stewartville, where he attended school, graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1964. He was employed at IBM in Rochester. Carl was married on March 23, 1974 in Stewartville to Betty Jane Putratz. The couple lived in Stewartville, where they raised their children and made their home for many years. Carl was employed for over 30 years at IBM until his retirement and then was re-hired in a part-time capacity. Betty was a homemaker and also was employed in the cafeteria at Stewartville Schools for a number of years and as an aide with Tiger Time child care at Stewartville schools. In 2017, due to health concerns, they moved to Owatonna to be near their daughter. Mrs. Hanson died on March 31, 2020.
Carl was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. He was one of the first members of the Stewartville Driftskippers Snowmobile Club and enjoyed racing snowmobiles. He enjoyed going to the cabin, traveling as a family to Disney World in Florida and to Branson,MO with Betty. He also enjoyed fishing, his many pets – dogs and cats, watching Old Western movies, working on cars, following all MN sports and along with Betty was an avid Elvis fan. He enjoyed visiting with friends and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his 2 daughters – Susie Green(Brian Boland) of Plainview,MN; Melissa Hanson(Mathew Caron) of Owatonna and 8 grandchildren – Zachary Green, Kallon Green, Paige Caron, Tyler Caron, Riley Boland, A.J. Boland, Mason Boland and Mitchell Boland; 2 sisters – Jeanne Smith of Harmony,MN and Marilyn Allen of Davenport,FL; 2 brothers – Roger Hanson of Stewartville,MN and Dave Hanson of Grantsburg,WI and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister – Delores “Dood” Hoch and brother-in-law – Lauren Smith.
Due to public health concerns, no services will be held at this time. Burial and a committal service officiated by Rev. Byron Meline will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A Celebration of Life for Carl and Betty will take place later this summer in Stewartville. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home.
