The funeral service for Betty Jo Marshall, 90 , of Hines,MN and formerly of High Forest,MN., will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (January 8, 2022) at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville,MN. with Rev. Bridget Sheely officiating. Burial and a committal service will follow in High Forest Cemetery. Mrs. Marshall died on Thursday (December 30, 2021), of natural causes at her daughter’s home in Hines.
Betty Jo Collins was born on January 5, 1931 in Rochester,MN to Delmar and Avis(Smith) Collins. She grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Grove Twsp., attended rural schools and Stewartville HS where she was a majorette with the band, graduating in 1948. She was voted Olmsted County Dairy Queen 2 years in a row. Betty was married on September 18, 1948 at the Stewartville United Methodist Church to Roy A. Marshall. The couple lived on the Marshall family farm for a number of years, farming and raising their family. In 1971, Betty moved to northern MN to the Ten Strike Lake area where she and Roy bought the Big Pine Resort, which she managed until it’s sale in 1976. She then attended Thief River Falls Vocational – Technical College earning a 2 year associates degree as a beautician, graduating in 1980. She was a hairdresser for many years and created and sold jewelery as well until her retirement. Roy was employed for over 20 years with the City of Stewartville as a maintanence worker and following his retirement continued to operate a mower part-time for many years for the City. Mr. Marshall died on February 17, 2014. Betty was a past member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed following the MN Twins, creating jewelry, traveling, going to craft shows and loved animals especially kittys. She enjoyed time spent with all of her family.
Betty is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son – Bruce of Colville,WA; Cynthia Grundmeier and Debra Marshall (Doug Erickson) both of Hines,MN; daughter-in-law – Jody Marshall of High Forest,MN; 4 grandchildren – Collin(Melissa) Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Sarah Marshall(Chris Martin) and Kate Marshall and 3 great grand-children – Dominic, Audra and River. She was preceded in death by her husband – Roy, her 2 sons – Thomas Marshall and Daniel Marshall, her parents, and brother and sister-in-law – Duane and Joyce Collins.
