Obituary

Barbara A. Meade, 66, of Stewartville, Mn formerly of Fargo,ND died on Wednesday ( August 9, 2023) surrounded by loving family at her home, following an illness with cancer.

Barbara Ann Meade was born on October 20, 1956 in Devils Lake, ND to Rita Meade. She grew up in Devils Lake, ND where she attended and graduated from Warwick H.S. in 1974. Shortly after high-school, she married Clarence Leftbear Jr, they had 3 children together, residing in Tokio, ND. Later divorced. Barbara and children moved to Fargo, ND. Barbara attended St. Marys University and NDSU in Fargo receiving an associates degree in Art. While living in Fargo ,Barbara kindled a relationship with a long time friend, John Guy and their daughter Lana was born.  Barbara, John and children lived in Fargo for a number of years where she was employed on production lines in manufacturing. Barbara later moved to Stewartville in 2005 to live near family and was employed at Caseys Convenience Store in Stewartville. Barbara was born Native American and was a member of the Spirit Lake Nation. She enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, going to the casino, was a member of the Big Top Bingo Club in Fargo, ND. and enjoyed playing bingo at the Stewartville American Legion. She loved time spent with her large family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara was known for making the best frybread as well.

Barbara is survived by 1 son and 4 daughters – Anne Leftbear(Joe Alberts) of Cheyenne,Wy; Clarence Leftbear III of Stewartville, MN; Tera Leftbear of Fargo, ND; Rita Jacobs of St. Michaels,ND and Lana(Jeremy) Hamand of Stewartville; 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters – Marilyn Meade of Bismarck,ND; Catherine Meade of Sioux falls ,SD and Arlene Neer of Fargo,ND and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, sister – Yvonne Guy, brother – George Demarce and long time companion-Jimmy Heller.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes there will be no services. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday (August 20, 2023) at the Stewartville American Legion.
