Walter “Bud” Jensen Jr., 90, a lifelong Hayfield, MN area farmer died on Friday (August 3, 2018) of natural causes at Mayo Clinic – Rochester – St. Mary’s Hospital Campus.
Walter Jensen Jr was born on June 8, 1928 in Hayfield, Mn to Walter Sr. and Marie (Hagen) Jensen. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural school and began farming with his family. He enlisted into the U.S. Army serving for 4 years including duty overseas in Japan and in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Walter was married on August 18, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield to Florence Ahlgran. Following their marriage the couple lived on the Jensen Family Farm, where they raised their family and farmed for over 60 years. Bud was a lifelong farmer and also was a good carpenter/handyman for family and neighbors. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Hayfield American Legion Post 330. Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, watching old westerns on T.V., was a John Wayne fan and followed the Vikings. He enjoyed time spent with Florence and his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his wife - Florence and children – Allen of Mankato,MN; Steven (Chris) of Garrison, MN; Michelle (Joe) Dahlby of Bemidji, MN andLori (Chris) Mein of Roseville, MN; 9 grandchildren – Rachel Jensen,Nick (Crystal) Jensen, Katie (Andy) Quarfoth, Megan (Jeremy) Fogelson, Andrew ( Cori) Dahlby, Mara (Paul) Turner, Anna Mein, Joe Mein and Hannah Mein; 11 great – grandchildren –Charlotte, Georgiana, Sophia, Cecelia, Caleb, Clare, Saul, Thad, Matthew, Luke and Colin; 1 sister – Doris Vitelli of Elmhurst, Ill. and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
In keeping with Bud’s wishes no services are planned at this time. Burial and a committal service will take place at the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston, MN at a later date.
