Robert Freeman Obituary

Robert “Gordon” Freeman, 52, of Rochester,Mn. died Wednesday (July 25, 2012) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester from complications of cancer following a short illness.

Robert Gordon Freemann was born September 21, 1959 in Perry County, Indiana to Robert and Mary(Cravens) Freeman. Gordon grew up in southern Perry County, Indiana. He was raised right by the mighty Ohio River and very close to the Hoosier National Forrest that gave him many opportunities to enjoy his love of being outdoors, and hunting and fishing. He attended school and graduated from Tell City H.S. in 1977. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator in Indiana for a number of years and after moving to Minnesota in 1997, worked for Rochester area construction companies, most recently Jech’s Excavating in Elgin,Mn. Gordon lived with his companion and the love of his life, Julie Schnabel. Julie has been employed as a medical transcriptionist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for many years. Gordon was a good hearted soul, that would help anyone he came across. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and giving away the produce to all his neighbors, working on everbody’s lawn equipment for very little if any pay. He took great pride in landscaping his and Julie’s yard and enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting with his dogs. Coming from Perry County where the winters are mild he was initially shocked by Minnesota winters, but then started calling home to brag about how many feet of snow they’d gotten in Minnesota! He loved it here, but also enjoyed going home to visit family and friends in Good Ole Southern Indiana. His family loved it when he came home and he will be in eveyone’s hearts forever.

Gordon is survived by his parents – Robert Freeman of Loogootee,In.; Mary Freeman of Cannelton,In.; 2 sons – Kurt(Kim) Freeman of Branchville,In. and Craig Freeman of Ferdinand,In.; 4 siblings and their families – Ann Freeman Zuelly of Tell City, In.; Dan(Nickii) of Tell City,In.; Jason(Julie) Freeman of Newburgh,In. and Karen(Chris) Herzog of Cannelton,In.; nieces – Megan, Taylor and Lindsay Freeman; nephews – Dereck Zuelly, Ethan,Spencer and Hunter Herzog, Clayton Morgan and Jacob and Nathan Freeman. Great nephews Silas and Zeke Zuelly. He is also survived by the love of his life - Julie Schnabel. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents –Clarence and Helen(Jordan) Freeman and his maternal grandparents –Vernon and Lily(Turner) Cravens.
