Mildred Eberling Obituary

The memorial service for Mildred A. Eberling, 98, of Stewartville, Mn .will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Byron Meline officiating. Mrs. Eberling died on Sunday, August 26, 2012 of natural causes at Olmsted Medical Hospital in Rochester,Mn. , where she had been a patient since last Wednesday.

Mildred Ada Bigalk was born June 16, 1914 in Howard County,Ia. in the farm home of her parents, Fred and Frieda(Meyer) Bigalk. She grew up on the family farm, attended rural schools and graduated from Cresco High School in 1932. On May 2, 1936 in Cresco, Ia, she was united in marriage to Lloyd W. Eberling. They became the parents of one daughter, Constance Rae. They farmed in Albion and Vernon Springs Townships and in 1972 following her father’s death and the failing health of her husband, they moved to Cresco to care for her invalid mother. Mr. Eberling died on August 12, 1975. Mildred was baptized, confirmed and married in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco and she belonged to its Ruth Circle, was past president of its E.L.C.W. and was also a member of the choir for several years. She enjoyed music and was occasionaly asked to play violin or piano for different programs. For a number of years she was employed at the Leuthold Ready to Wear Store. After retiring from there, she did Home Health Care for several Cresco residents. Mildred moved to Stewartville in 2003 to live near family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing cards, playing her violin and traveling, but her main interest was always her family. She loved making quilts and their favorite foods for them, but best of all was just being together.

Mildred is survived by 4 grandchildren – Marcia(Brian) Ferson of Stewartville/ Linda Noack of Plymouth,Mn./ Bruce(Kristie O’Brien) Johnson of Minneapolis,Mn./ Janell(Dan) Schefers of Rochester,Mn./ 7 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren/ son-in-law –Glen Johnson of Peterson,Mn. and 1 sister – Lucile Floyd of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by her husband- Lloyd, her daughter Constance “Connie” Johnson in 2008, her parents and twin infant sisters.

Friends may call 1 hr. prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday morning. Burial with a committal service will take place at a future date at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco,Ia.
