A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Y. Holzer, 91, a longtime Stewartville,MN resident will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday (October 24, 2018) at St Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Holzer died surrounded by family, on Sunday(October 21, 2018) of natural causes, at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident since September of 2015.
Mary Yvonne Degnan was born on April 24, 1927 in Lewiston,MN to Peter and Florence(Duncanson) Degnan. She moved often with her family as a young girl, growing up in Winona County and attended Cathedral H.S. in Winona, graduating in 1945. Mary was united in marriage on October 5, 1946 in Minneiska,MN to William F. Holzer. Following their marriage the couple farmed in rural Rushford and Plainview,MN. before moving to rural Stewartville in 1955. They moved into Stewartville in 1961, where they raised their family and continued to make their home. Mary was a homemaker and was employed as a nursing unit manager at Rochester Methodist Hospital for 27 years until her retirement. Bill was employed as a machinist at IBM from 1961 until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Holzer died on February 22, 2010. Mary was a longtime member of St. Bernards Catholic Church, where she belonged to it’s CCW and helped with many church events through the years. She enjoyed music, baking and cooking, fishing, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved following her children's and grandkid's school and sporting activities and time spent with family meant everything to her.
Mary is survived by 1 daughter and 3 sons - Mike(Cheryl) of Wykoff,MN; William "Bill "(Pam) of Rochester,MN; Nancy(Don) Powers of Hawick,MN and Steve(Liz) of St. Paul,MN and son-in-law - Steve Landherr; 15 grandchildren - Richard(Heather) Holzer, Nathan(Desiree) Holzer, Jon(Jamie) Holzer, Scott(Amanda) Landherr, Mary(Michael) Peck, Erin(Jim) Krulish, Mike Haugh, Daniel Haugh, Kari Haugh, Natalie(Adam) Miller, Chad(Erin) Powers, Chris(Marta) Powers, Wade Powers(Erin Enderson), Meaghan(Patrick) Simpson and Katie(Ben) Weber; 20 great- grandchildren; her sister - Joan Dorsey of Lakeport,CA and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband - William, daughter - Pat Landherr, grandson - Kyle Haugh, her parents, and brothers - Bill Degnan and George Degnan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday (October 23, 2018) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and an hour before the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
