The funeral service for Marjorie A. Wolfgram, 95, of rural Racine, MN, will

be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday (June 6, 2019) at Racine United Methodist Church with Pastor Bridget Sheely officiating. Burial will follow at Racine Salem Cemetery in Racine Township.  A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday (June 5, 2019) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning.  Mrs. Wolfgram died on Thursday (May 30, 2019) of natural causes at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN.

Marjorie Ann Brownell was born on February 3, 1924 to Howard and Helen (Doten) Brownell at her parent’s home in Racine Township, Mower County, MN.  She grew up on the family farm, attended rural school and Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1942.  She attended college during WWII at Stout Institute in Menominee, WI earning her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and then taught Home Economics in WI for about a year.  Marjorie was married on August 9, 1947 at Racine United Methodist Church to Duane W. Wolfgram.  Following their marriage the couple farmed together and raised their three children on the Wolfgram Family farm.  Marjorie was a homemaker and farm wife, and Duane was a lifelong crop and dairy farmer.  Mr. Wolfgram died on May 13, 1982.  Over the years, Marjorie also worked as a bookkeeper at the Racine Creamery and Racine Elevator.  She also did alterations for Mestad’s Wedding World, and during her late 70’s & early 80’s worked as a cook for Garden Cottage Assisted Living in Stewartville (she was older than many of the residents!).  Marjorie was a lifelong devoted member of the Racine United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years.  Her favorite group to teach were the preschoolers and she would spend her Saturday evening preparing her lesson.  She was an active leader in the church, involved in women’s groups, choir, and coordinated the Chicken Pie Supper event for many years.  She was an expert seamstress and able to easily tackle the most challenging tailored projects including sewing her own wedding dress and both daughters’ wedding dresses as well.  She shared her talents of sewing with her daughters, granddaughters, and 4-H youth.  She was a 4-H leader in Mower County from the 1950’to the 1980’s with the Racine Rockets 4-H Club.  She appreciated fine art, beautiful music, drama, history, the color red, travel, and lively religious and political debates.  Her pie making skills were legendary.  She was an avid reader and always liked to have a box of chocolate or nuts squirreled away on a back shelf.  She never hesitated to ride carnival rides and even rode a camel during a trip to the Holy Land.  Marjorie was an adventure seeking person, with an infectious giggle who enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and loved time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son; Janice (Kevin) Carr of Zumbrota, MN, Ann (Doug) Gihl of Ramsey, MN., and Brian (Sandy) Wolfgram of rural Racine.  She is survived by 6 grandchildren, Sheila Carr (Dr. Anil Poulose), Dr. Melissa (Matt) Eisenschenk, Jeremy (Rebecca) Carr, Isaac (Alissa) Wolfgram, Sarah Gihl, and Bridget Gihl.  She also is survived by 10 great grandchildren, Zera, Olive, Judah, Cedar, Sebastian, Mae, Bea, Lincoln, Emma and Autumn.  She is also survived by 3 sisters, Olive Goodrich of Menomonie, WI; Dorothy (Jim) Olds of Platteville, WI and Marilyn Brownell of New York, NY and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, and her 2 brothers, Melvin Brownell and Wayne Brownell.
