Marion E. Bateman Obituary

The funeral service for Marion E. Bateman,  87, of Stewartville, MN, will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at the Stewartville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Marburger officiating. Burial and a committal service will follow at Frankford Cemetery in rural Spring Valley.  Mrs. Bateman died on Sunday, October 13,  2019, of natural causes at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester,  where she had been a resident since 2015.

Marion Elaine Bale was born September 26, 1932, in Salem Township, Olmsted County, MN to Donald and Anna (Peterson) Bale. She grew up on the family farm, attended rural schools and graduated from Byron H.S. in 1950.  Marion was married on August 5, 1954 at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, MN to Lyle Bateman. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester and then rural Rochester for a number of years. Marion was a homemaker and was employed as a service coordinator for 3M Mining Co. in its Rochester office for a number of years.  Lyle was a firefighter in Rochester for 28 years until his retirement in 1979 and co-owned a fence installation business which he helped operate for a few years. The Batemans moved to Stewartville in 1999 where they made their home for a number of years. Mr. Bateman died on September 7, 2012. Marion was a member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church and volunteered with its Ladies Aid.  She was a past member of The Red Hat Society and the Elks both in Rochester and the Stewartville Lioness chapter. She was an avid 4-H leader with the Salem Sailors and enjoyed horseback riding with Lyle when they lived in rural Rochester, league bowling and golfing.  She was an avid shopper and an excellent cook and baker who enjoyed entertaining in her home especially during the holidays. Marion loved time spent with family, especially with her grandson and great grandchildren.

Marion is survived by 1 grandson, Phillip (Juanita) and 3 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Devon and Jaden of rural Byron; 2 brothers – Kenneth Bale of rural Rochester; Gareld (Mable) Bale of rural Byron, MN, and sister-in-law Joan Bale of Rochester; her nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, and their son Daniel, her parents, and brother Robert Bale.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning. Marion’s family suggests memorials to Rochester Paws and Claws, your local 4H Chapter, or the Stewartville United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
