Marilyn Ann O’Connell, 72, of Naples,Fla. died Monday (July 23, 2012) at Avow Hospice in Naples following a short illness.
Marilyn Ann Nelson was born August 2, 1939 in Kasson,Mn. to Otis and Norma (Nelson) Nelson. She moved with her family as a young girl to Stewartville, attended country school and Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1957. Marilyn was married on Otober 28, 1967 in Minneapolis, Mn. to Edward T. O’Connell. The couple lived in Rochester before moving to Naples, Fla., where they made their home for the next 40 years. Marilyn was employed as a postal clerk for over 30 years by the U.S. Postal Service in Naples. Her husband Eddie was a brick mason working in construction in Naples for many years. He died in 1996. She was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and was a member of the Bonita Springs American Legion Ladies Auxillary. Marilyn and Eddie enjoyed boating in the Gulf, fishing, and time spent with family and friends.
Surviors include 6 sisters and 7 brothers –Otis Nelson Jr. of St. Cloud,Mn./ David(Marie) Nelson of Rochester/ Steven Nelson of Rochester/ Christine(Steven) Wilson of Rochester/ Karen Bush of Grand Meadow,Mn./ Nancy Scantin of Elk River,Mn./ Tom(Darlene) Nelson of Maple Lake,Mn./ Mark Nelson of Stewartville/ Alice Giefer of Hastings,Mn./ Ruth(Jerry) Johnson of Manchester, Ia./ Peter(Lee Ann) of Golden Valley, Mn./ Sarah-Nelson Thorpe of Bloomington,Mn. and Eric Nelson of Rock Dell,Mn. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband – Edward, her parents and a brother – Jimmie Nelson.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday (August 11, 2012) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Byron Meline officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bridgets Cemetery in Simpson,Mn. Friends may call 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning and are invited to a luncheon at the Stewartville American Legion.
