Margie J. Hanken Obituary

The funeral service for Margie J.  Hanken, 90, of rural Stewartville,Mn. will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (June 11, 2019) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. David Preuss officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Hanken died Monday (June 3,  2019) of natural causes at her son’s home in rural Grand Meadow,MN .

Margie Jane Prokasky was born  June 16, 1928 in Stewartville to  Chris and Alama( Betcher)Prokasky . She grew up on the family farm in rural Stewartville, attended school and graduated from Stewartville H.S. in 1945. She was employed as a secretary at Stewartville H.S. for a few years. Margie was married on June 29, 1952 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Elman A. Hanken. Following their marriage the couple lived in High Forest,Mn. before moving to Stewartville where they raised their children and lived for a number of years. The Hankens built in rural High Forest in 1978 and have continued to make their home there.  Margie was a homemaker and also was employed at Mayo Clinic for a time and at Dayton's Department Store in Rochester until her retirement in 1993.  Mr. Hanken was employed at Rochester Dairy prior to his employment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 1952 as a medical photographer where he enjoyed a 40 year career. Mr. Hanken died May 13, 2011. Margie was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where she was active with it’s Ladies Aid, Sunday school and choir.  She also volunteered with the Stewartville Jaycees and was a member of the Young Republicans and the Driftskippers Snowmobile Club. Margie enjoyed following the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Lynx and especially enjoyed going to her grandkid’s sporting events. She cherished time spent with family and taking daily rides through the woods with Elman on the golf cart. Margie loved animals and had names for many of the deer, that she and Dad would see on their daily rides.

Margie is survived by her daughter - Deb(Kerry) Linbo of Byron,Mn. and son - Terry(Darcy) Hanken of Grand Meadow,Mn./ 5 grandchildren – Tony(Renae) Linbo and Adam(Emily) Linbo, Brynn Hanken(Chris Meyer), Ethan(Maggie) Hanken and Hailey Hanken(Kyle Brown) and sister –in-law – Arlene Hanken. She was preceded in death by her husband Elman, her parents – Chris and Alma Prokasky and brother – Jim Prokasky .

Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on  Monday( June 10, 2019) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
