It is with great sadness that the family of Lance A. Growden announce his passing. Lance passed away from complications due to heart failure on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the age of 50. Lance had been living at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN for the past 2 ½ months awaiting a heart transplant.
Lance Alan Growden was born on November 3, 1967 in Rochester, MN. He attended schools in Rochester and Pelican Rapids, MN and later earned his GED. Lance was employed with KENCO Construction, Inc in Minneapolis, MN owned by his uncle Vern McGrand. He was employed with KENCO for over 17 years, working in several different states and enjoyed seeing and living in other parts of the country. Lance then moved to Chatfield, MN. He was employed at Tuohy Furniture in Chatfield for over 10 years. Lance moved to Hazelton, IA for a few years before buying a house in Greenleafton, MN where he continued to make his home. Most recently he found a new opportunity with Halcon, Inc in Stewartville where he worked until retiring for health reasons.
Lance will be remembered for his smile, his love of animals (his family dogs!) his sense of humor, kindness and his love for sports, especially the “Packers!” and also liked the “Twins!” He enjoyed video games, watching movies, going to bingo and attending WE Fest. Lance loved time spent with his Mom and the rest of his family.
Lance is survived by his mother, Mary (Roger) McGrand-Schibursky of Preston, MN; father, Alan “Skip” (Paula) Growden of Hazelton, IA; siblings, Tami (Al) Boysen of Rochester; Tara Schibursky of Las Vegas, NV; Mike (Jessica) Schibursky of Preston; Mike Hall of Allendale, MO; Carol Hall of Lamoni, IA; John (Marcie)Growden of Oelwein, IA; Brooke (John) Carey, Independence, IA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful K-9 friend, “Gabby”. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clifford and Lillian (Born) McGrand and his paternal grandparents, Dean and Margaret “Peg” Growden.
A Celebration of Lance’s life will take place from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 18, 2017 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. Please feel free to join in his Celebration of Life with the Green Bay Packers’ colors of green and gold to carry on Lance’s spirit. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
