The memorial service for Dennis P. Haack, 75, of Rochester,MN will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday(April 22, 2019) at Grace Lutheran Church in Rochester with Rev. Gregory Heidorn officiating. Mr. Haack died on Thursday (April 18, 2019) following a lengthy illness with C.O.P.D., at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing,MN.

Dennis Paul Haack was born on June 19, 1943  to Hugo and Anna (Schwartz) Haack in Sidney,NE. He moved with his family as a young boy to rural Stewartville, where he grew up on the family farm, attended Stewartville schools graduating from Stewartville H.S. in 1961. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he served for 4 years. Following his discharge he lived in California and Arizona before returning to Minnesota where he attended Concordia College in St. Paul,MN. Dennis was married on June 25, 1978 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Darlene R. Niemeyer. Following their marriage the couple moved to Rochester, where they raised their children and have continued to make their home. Dennis was employed as a realtor for a few years before his employment at Hy-vee South in Rochester from their opening year for 18 years to follow. He was employed at Rochester School Bus Service as a driver and enjoyed being around the kids. Darlene was a tax preparer and  owner of Haack Tax Service for over 20 years before it became Strategic Tax and Retirement Service. Dennis was a longtime active member of Grace Lutheran Church serving as an elder for a number of years. A talented woodworker he made many pieces of furniture for the altar and church. He was a self -taught carpenter who built his own house in Rochester with the help of Darlene and the kids. For the past 20 years Dennis and Darlene have been emergency foster parents for children and infants and currently are adult foster care providers.  Dennis was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping and boating on Lake Darling, golfing and playing poker. He enjoyed visiting with friends and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his wife Darlene;  his daughter and  sons –Tim(Pam) of Rochester; Jeremy(Angela) of Woodbury,MN and Krystal(Troy) Horn of Stewartville;  6 grandchildren – Jeslyn, Brayden, Blake, Hailey, Cooper and Hunter; his brother – Henry Haack of Pharr,TX.; many nieces and nephews and a son from a previous marriage – Todd(Stacy) Siers and grandchildren – Peyton and Maddison.  He was preceded in death by his parents,  2 sisters – Laura Stoltenberg and Catherine Benke, 2 brothers – Burdell Haack and Marvin Haack and an infant brother – Gerald.

 A time of visitation will take place 1 hr. prior to the service. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville at a later date.  Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.  Condolences and memories of Dennis are welcome at www.griffin-gray.com
