David L. Schindler, 79, a longtime Stewartville, MN resident, died unexpectedly from complications of an apparent stroke on Sunday (November 10, 2019) at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Marys Campus.
David Lee Schindler was born on August 26, 1940 in Chatfield, MN to Melvin and Marian(Baldwin) Schindler. He grew up in Chatfield where he attended and graduated from Chatfield H.S. in 1958. He was a member of the football and rifle teams while he attended school. After graduation, he moved to Montana where he worked for his uncle's logging company. He was later employed in the auto body repair department at Clements Chevrolet where he worked for a few years. Dave was married in Great Falls, MT to Sharon I. Sleeper. Following their marriage, they lived for a few years in Rochester before moving to Stewartville in 1971, where they raised their children and where Dave continued to make his home. They were later divorced. Dave was a longtime employee at Adamsons Motors in Rochester in the auto body repair department as a technician and eventually as department manager for a number of years. He later was employed as a claims adjuster for different insurance companies until his retirement.
As a teenager, Dave began boxing with other kids in Chatfield and participated in Golden Gloves Boxing competitons in S.E. MN. He was an avid snowmobiler and raced snowmobiles competively for several years. He also helped form the Driftskippers Snowmobile Club in Stewartville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to the cabin in northern MN. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
Dave is survived by 1 daughter and 2 sons – Lanny of Rochester; Jodi(Bob) McColley of Dodge Center, MN and Mike(Tricia) of Stewartville; 4 grand children – Janessa(Ryan) Gore, Ashlyn Liebenow, Jordan Schindler and Mason Schindler and great grandson – Brecken Gore; 1 brother – Dick(Ann) Schindler of Chatfield, MN; 1 nephew- Dan(Marcia) Schindler and 1 niece Deb (Dale) Simon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Dave’s wishes, no services or rememberance will take place at this time. Dave’s family suggests memorials be made to the charity or cause of one’s choice.
