Beverly B. Brandt

The memorial service for Beverly B. Brandt, 84, of Rochester,MN will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday (August 3, 2018) at E. St. Olaf  Lutheran Church in Rock Dell,MN. with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Brandt died on Monday (July 30, 2018) surrounded by her loving family at her home, following a short illness with cancer. 

Beverly Bea Schmidt was born on April 22, 1934 at home in Mitchell County,IA to Lawrence and Allene(Titus) Schmidt. She grew up on the family farm in rural Osage, attended country school and Osage H.S. graduating in 1953. She attended St. Marys School of Practical Nursing in Rochester, graduating with an LPN degree in 1954. She was then employed as an LPN at St. Marys Hospital. Beverly was married on August 24, 1957 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester,MN. to Marvin L. Brandt. The newlyweds lived in Stewartville before moving to Rock Dell Twsp. in 1964, where they farmed for many years and raised their family. Beverly was a homemaker and farmwife and was employed both part-time and full time at St. Marys Hospital until her retirement from nursing in 1996. Marvin raised cattle and had a long career as an auto mechanic at various auto dealerships. He also owned his own repair shop in Rock Dell and operated a handy man service. Following their retirement the Brandts sold their farm and moved to Rochester in 2010. Mr. Brandt died on May 4, 2013. Beverly was a longtime member of E. St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was an active member of it’s Ladies Aid. She was a longtime member of the Stewartville VFW and Stewartville American Legion Auxillaries and served on St. Marys Practical Nursing Advisory Board. She enjoyed gardening and canning, reading, collected tea pots and enjoyed travelling with Marvin includingtwo trips to Europe. She liked visiting with friends and loved time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Beverly is survived by  2 daughters and 3 sons – Merry Lea Brandt of Silverdale,WA.; Julianna(Jeremy) Lee of Rochester; Mark of Stewartville; Lloyd(Laurie) of Owatonna,MN. and Ellerd(Retno) of Clarksville,TN.; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law – James Kaplan of Woodbridge,VA; her sister – Clarice(Mike) Milligan of Charles City,IA and brother - Edward Schmidt of Steubenville,MT. She was preceded in death by her husband – Marvin, her daughter – Molly Bea (Brandt) Kaplan, grandson – Jay Saufferer and an infant twin sister - Audrey.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday (August 2, 2018) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the services at the church on Friday morning. Memorials can be made to Mayo Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
