The memorial service for Betty J. Barber, 80, of Stewartville, MN will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday (September 18, 2019) at the Stewartville United Methodist Church with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Barber passed away peacefully, her family by her side, on Sunday (September 15, 2019) at the Stewartville Care Center.
Betty Jane Schultz was born April 7, 1939 in Bethany, MN, to John and Florence (Prudoehl) Schultz. She grew up on the family farm and attended Lewiston High School. Betty married Dennis Chalmer Barber on November 28, 1955. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Lewiston where they had 5 children. The Barber family moved to Stewartville in 1972. Betty was a homemaker, worked at Lake Center industries in Stewartville, and at Waters Instruments in Rochester. She discontinued her employment following diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1992. Dennis was a life-long auto mechanic. Betty moved from Stewartville to Speltz Estates Assisted Living in Lewiston following the death of her husband in 2001. She resided there for 12 years and then moved to the Stewartville Care Center where she has been a resident for 6 years. Betty was a longtime member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling and gardening and loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Survivors include her children - Connie (Bruce) Thompson, Vicky (Robert) Robertson, Steven (Wanda) Barber, all of Stewartville and Lorelei (Chad) Quandt of Racine; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers - Eugene (Marlene) Schultz, Daniel (Lorraine) Schultz, Richard (Joanne) Schultz all of Lewiston; 2 sisters - Judi (John) Randall of Fremont and Dorothy (Dean) Nuszloch of Utica. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, daughter Sherry (Anthony) Heintz, brothers - John and Roy Schultz and grandson Dustin Moe.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday (September 17, 2019) from 5 to 7 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
