Victor Lansing Obituary

The funeral service for Victor F. Lansing, 91, of Stewartville, Mn. will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday (April 23, 2018) at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Byron Meline and Rev. Kim Kyllo officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mr. Lansing died on Wednesday (April 18, 2018) following a lengthy illness with Alzheimers Disease.  He died at Traditions Memory Care in Owatonna, MN surrounded by his loving family, after a short stay. 

Victor Francis Lansing was born March 6, 1927 in Decorah, IA to Frank and Beatrice(Holien) Lansing. He grew up in New Hampton, IA, attended schools there, graduating from New Hampton H.S. in 1945. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and was employed as a linotype operator at the New Hampton Tribune newspaper. Victor was married on August 30, 1949 in Clear Lake, IA to Marilyn J. Pietan. Following their marriage, the couple lived in New Hampton before moving to Oelwein, IA, where Victor was employed at the Oelwein Daily Register for 9 years. The Lansings moved to Stewartville in 1965, where they raised their family and have continued to make their home. Vic was employed at the Post Bulletin in Rochester for over 25 years in the composing department until his retirement in 1990. Marilyn was a stay at home mom and is a homemaker. Victor was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville where he served as an usher.  He served on the Woodlawn Cemetery Assn. board and as a part-time caretaker at the cemetery. Vic and Marilyn enjoyed traveling following his retirement and for many years looked forward to their summer vacations up north with their children and grandchildren at Pincherry Grove Resort near Grand Rapids, MN.   He was an avid fisherman and league bowler for many years. Vic lived for his family and enjoyed helping them in countless ways. He loved time spent with all of his family.

Victor’s family would like to thank the staffs at Traditions in Owatonna and Heartland Hospice for their support and his excellent care.

Victor is survived by his wife of 68 years – Marilyn; 2 daughters and 2 sons – Sandra(Tom) Ellinghuysen of Stewartville; Jeffrey(Karen) of Rochester; Gwen(Greg) Wellik of Rochester and Tom of Stewartville; 8 grandchildren- Patrick(Cindy) Ellinghuysen, Chris Ellinghuysen, Jessica(Adam) Guile, Krista(Aaron) Strain, Kelly(Nick) Enger, Nicole(Ryan) Jensson, Zach Wellik and fiance (Nicole Roozen) and Taylor Lansing; 17 great grandchildren -Miranda, Megan, Kennedy, Carter, Georgia, Reese, Ashton, Hudson, Sophia, Jack, Brody, Griffin, Rowan, Luca, Ava, Vincent, and Amelia, and 3 great-great grandchildren – Rylan, Brielle and Carter; 1 sister –Dorothy Lansing of New Hampton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Harlin and Isabel Pietan.

A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 2 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday (April 22, 2018) at Zion Lutheran Church and 1 hr. prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday morning. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville. www.griffin-gray.com
