Lyle Wallace Obituary

Lyle " Tubby" Wallace, 89, of Stewartville,MN died on Monday (March 5, 2018) of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where he had resided since September of 2016.

Lyle Frances Wallace was born on June 4, 1928 in Rochester, MN to Dewey "Mitt" and Catherine(Bell) Wallace. He grew up in rural Simpson,MN , attended country school and Rochester H.S., graduating in 1946. He was employed part-time at B and B Auto Body in Rochester as a teenager. Tubby was married on October 29, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua,IA to Harriet A. Phelps. Following their marriage the couple moved to S. St. Paul,MN where Tubby was employed as an auto body repair specialist. Tubby was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, serving 2 years including duty overseas in Korea. After his discharge the couple lived in S.E. MN and Tubby continued to work in auto body repair for over 35 years until his retirement. He also worked from the shop in his garage on nights and weekends doing repair for friends and family. Tubby was not a fan of Mn winters, so, he and Harriet moved to Arizona in 1966 and then to Arkansas in 1986. Harriet passed away in April of 1996. Tubby moved to Mason City,IA and then on to Stewartville in 2014 to be near family. He was an avid fan of stock car racing, followed NASCAR, enjoyed deer hunting in younger years and collected guns and model cars. Tubby always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews and their families.

His family would also like to thank the Stewartville Care Center for their loving care of Tubby and also a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and their special staff for care, support and kindness to Tubby and his family.

Tubby is survived by his sister - Marcella Hebl of Stewartville; sister-in-law - Marion Wallace of Rochester and Harriet's sister and brother-in-law - Marge and Ray Bestler of Hastings,MN and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother - Kenneth "Tea" Wallace and brother - Clarence "Hank" Wallace.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday(April 28, 2018) at the High Forest Community Church in High Forest,MN with Rev. Marcus Quam officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by the Dodge Center American Legion will take place at 3:00 P.M. at Wasioja Cemetery in Wasioja,MN.
