Diane M. Stein

The memorial service for Diane Stein, 83, of Stewartville, MN will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday (March 30, 2018) at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Mrs. Stein died on Tuesday (March 27, 2018) of cancer at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester - Methodist Campus.

Diane Mae Kalass was born October 7, 1934 in rural Zumbrota, MN to Arnold and Oress(Fredrickson) Kalass. She grew up in rural Zumbrota, graduating from Zumbrota H.S. in 1952. She was employed as a medical secretary and surgical recorder at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Diane was married on May 28, 1954 to Robert E. Stein. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Marion and Grand Meadow before moving to Stewartville in 1963, where they raised their family and have continued to make their home. Diane was a homemaker and was also employed as a book-keeper at the All- American Co-op in Stewartville for 23 years and in the office of the Stewartville Care Center for 5 years until her retirement. Bob was a longtime employee at IBM until his retirement. Mr. Stein died on August 5, 2010. Diane was a longtime active member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and was active in its Ladies groups. She enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling including trips overseas. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Diane is survived by one son and four daughters- Jeffrey(Sonia) Stein of Stewartville; Barbara(Peter) Norby of Canton, MN; Sherry(Greg) Hinkle of Stewartville; Janice(Terry) Jones of Grand Meadow, MN and Pamela(Kevin) Wester of Stewartville; 12 grandchildren - Cheryl(Jesse) Kuennen, Jason(Sunshine) Norby, Jarrod(Breanna) Hinkle, Kyle(Lacy) Hinkle, Jeremy Jones(DeAnn Johnson), Clint Jones, Dianna(Dr. Steven) Robinson, Matthew Stein, Michelle(Eric) Schlichter, Daniel Wester, Adam Wester and Nick Wester; 18 great grandchildren; one brother - Paul(Marilyn) Kalass of Zumbrota and three sisters - Sharon(Frank) Rettenberg of San Rafael, CA; Judy Kalass of Wilmington, NC and Mary Zimmerman of Lakeville, MN . She was preceded in death by her husband - Robert, her parents, one sister - Sue Post and a brother - James Kalass.

A time of visitation will take place 1 hr. prior to the service on Friday afternoon at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Frankford Cemetery in rural Spring Valley. Memorials can be made to the Stewartville United Methodist Church.
